Humberto Haro Jr., MS, AMFT

Humberto Haro Jr. is an upbeat therapist who exudes positivity. “Jr.” not only provides individual therapy for adults and children, he also has had great success working with couples, and families using a family systems approach.

Growing up in the Central Valley since the age of 5, he has an understanding of the lifestyle and culture of the area. He graduated from Fresno State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology with an emphasis in Victimology and a minor in Spanish. He continued his education at Fresno State and earned a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2004. He had many years of experience prior to joining McDermott Counseling. He counseled at risk youth in various group homes, and provided therapy to couples and families at the Fresno Family Center. Jr. is also a retired Correctional Counselor from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, where his optimism create a safer environment and improved positive results, by helping those struggling with addiction and depression by building on their strengths rather than focusing on their weaknesses.

Jr. utilizes Solution Focused Therapy with the majority of his clients. “If it’s not broken… don’t fix it, if something is working… do more of it and if it’s not working… do something different”. He believes that counseling should be tailored to each individual, through working on a person’s struggles and building on individual’s strengths to make the client whole in their emotional well-being and personal relationships.

Jr. loves attending Fresno State football games, working out at the gym, mountain biking, traveling (mostly to the beach) and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
