What is the process like?
You do NOT need a referral to be seen at McDermott Counseling. Your first step is to contact our office. There are two ways you can contact our office; either by phone (559)280-5756 or via EMAIL. If you have health insurance benefits that you would like to utilize make sure you have your insurance card with you when you call; alternately you can attach a picture of the front and back of your insurance card if you email us. Also include your full name (as it appears on your insurance card) and Date of Birth. If you do not have insurance or do not want to use your insurance benefits you can simply call our office to make an appointment.
Once you make an appointment our administrative staff will email you an intake packet to print out, complete and bring with you to your appointment. Alternatively, you can show up to your appointment 30 minutes early to complete the paperwork.
Upon arrival at McDermott Counseling you will be greeted at the window by one of our very friendly administrative staff; Akaia, Tara or Anisa. One of them will collect your completed intake packet and let your therapist know that you are ready for your session. Your first session will last for one hour.
During your first session you will be able to share anything you like with your therapist and ask any questions. Your therapist will ask you questions and gather a history of your presenting issue or concerns. By the end of your session you will work together to identify a few goals that you would like to accomplish by attending therapy. After your session your therapist will create a treatment plan for you based on your specific needs, personality, resources and goals.
